Karl Quast
Master of Counselling
Registered Counsellor (EMDR, Critical Incident Stress Management)
Karl is a counsellor with more than 15 years’ experience across youth work, social services, education and community development, including leadership and management roles. His career has involved working with people experiencing complex circumstances, while also supporting, mentoring and training the frontline professionals who work alongside them.
Alongside his Masters in Counselling, Karl has undertaken specialist training in Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM), EMDR, and preventing occupational violence. He has developed and delivered professional development for frontline workers around challenging behaviour, trauma informed practice, critical incidents, emotional regulation and the impact of working in high-pressure environments.
Karl became a counsellor because of his experience working alongside people in frontline roles and seeing both the value and the emotional demands of this work. Karl has personal experience of burnout and compassion fatigue and is particularly passionate about supporting people to maintain their wellbeing while continuing to work in professions they care about.
His aim is to help clients recognise the impact their work can have on their wellbeing, develop sustainable ways of working and maintain a sense of agency in their professional lives. He wants people to feel able to make conscious choices about how they work, rather than reaching a point where burnout or exhaustion makes those choices for them.
